BloxOne DDI
Infoblox cloud-managed DDI capabilities that provide DNS, DHCP, and IPAM services through BloxOne and NIOS-X service architecture. Product packaging and feature names evolve, so deployed documentation should be checked.
BloxOne Threat Defense
An Infoblox DNS security platform that applies protective-DNS policy, threat intelligence, analytics, and ecosystem integrations. It is often abbreviated B1TD.
DNS Traffic Control (DTC)
An Infoblox NIOS feature for DNS-based traffic steering using health monitors, servers, pools, topology, and load-balanced domain names. It supports GSLB-style responses from authoritative DNS.
DTC LBDN
A DTC Load Balanced Domain Name object that links a queried DNS name and record type to DTC pools and selection logic. It is the policy entry point for a DTC-managed answer.
DTC pool
A collection of DTC servers or endpoints with load-balancing and health behavior. Pools are associated with an LBDN and may be selected by topology or availability.
DTC server
An Infoblox DTC object representing an application endpoint and one or more service addresses or ports. Health monitors determine whether it is eligible for DNS responses.
Extensible attribute
A custom metadata field attached to a DDI object, such as owner, environment, business unit, site, application, or lifecycle state. In Infoblox NIOS, Extensible Attributes are widely used for search, policy, automation, and reporting.
Fixed address
A configured mapping that assigns a specific IP address to a matching client, commonly based on MAC address, client identifier, or DUID. In Infoblox terminology, a fixed address is a managed object distinct from a DHCP reservation.
GMC
Grid Master Candidate, an Infoblox member configured to take over the Grid Master role if the active Grid Master fails. It should be sized, licensed, synchronized, and operationally tested for takeover.
Grid
An Infoblox NIOS management and replication domain made up of a Grid Master and members. It centralizes configuration, object data, monitoring, and administrative control while members provide services.
Grid Master
The primary management authority for an Infoblox Grid. It stores and distributes configuration, coordinates members, and provides the main administrative interface and API endpoint.
Grid member
An Infoblox appliance or virtual instance joined to a Grid. A member can provide DNS, DHCP, reporting, discovery, or other services while receiving configuration from the Grid Master.
HA pair
Two nodes configured as a high-availability unit, normally presenting a shared service identity and synchronizing state. Infoblox NIOS HA pairs use active and passive nodes with HA communication and service VIP behavior.
Host record
A composite Infoblox IPAM object that can associate a host name with IPv4 or IPv6 addresses and optionally manage related A, AAAA, PTR, alias, or DHCP data. It is not a standard DNS resource record type.
Network container
An aggregate IPAM object that holds subnets or child containers and supports hierarchical allocation. In Infoblox, next-available-network functions can allocate children from a container.
Network view
An administrative routing-domain context that allows overlapping address space to be represented separately. In Infoblox, networks and related IPAM objects belong to a network view.
NIOS
The Infoblox operating system and DDI software platform used by Grid Masters, DNS/DHCP members, and related appliances or virtual instances. Features and terms vary by NIOS version and license.
NIOS-X
Infoblox's cloud-native service architecture for delivering selected networking and security capabilities through managed on-premises or cloud-connected service instances. It is distinct from traditional NIOS Grid architecture.
Topology ruleset
A DTC policy object that maps client, resolver, network, geography, or extensible-attribute conditions to an ordered set of pools or destinations.
WAPI
The Infoblox NIOS Web API, a REST-like interface for querying and modifying Grid objects. Versioned WAPI endpoints expose object types, fields, functions, paging, and authentication controls.
