ICANN

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers coordinates unique Internet identifiers and performs the IANA functions through its affiliate PTI. It also oversees agreements and policy processes for much of the domain-name ecosystem.

Registrant

The person or organization that holds registration rights for a domain name under a registry and registrar agreement.

Registrar

An organization accredited or authorized to register domain names for customers and submit data to a registry. Registrar account security is critical because compromise can change delegation and DNSSEC data.

Registry

The operator and database for a top-level domain or other registration zone. It maintains delegations and registration data submitted through registrars or direct processes.
